Our First Repair!

Building a ramp for long-term dignity and accessibility

Barbara and Pete are long term residents of the Pacific Northwest and McMinnville. They have loved living in their home for the great community, outdoors, fishing and variety of things to do.

When Pete was in the hospital and facing mobility issues, the couple found themselves in need of a way to make their home more accessible for him to get around. One of their daughters started looking into programs and found information about a brand-new Ramps/Rails/Repairs Program through MacHabitat. They decided to apply and found themselves the beneficiaries of our first project!

To make it easier for Pete to get in and out of the house, MacHabitat’s Repair Manager David built a wheelchair ramp and railing from the family’s carport to their front deck. He also added motion sensor-activated lighting for safe access when dark. Now, Pete will be able to easily access the house with his new electric wheelchair!

Barbara shares, “It will make it better for both of us – I won’t have to push a manual wheelchair. Pete can have a lot more freedom of movement with the repair/ramp added and door thresholds.

The ramp gives him more mobility with his health issues and independence. He’ll be able to go onto the front deck to sit. It will improve his quality of life.
